So, first of all, what is OCD? The American Psychiatric Association describes it like this:

“Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD) is a disorder in which people have recurring unwanted thoughts, ideas or sensations (obsessions). To get rid of the thoughts, they feel driven to do something repetitively (compulsions).”

Some of the most common compulsions are:

  • Cleaning non-stop for hours
  • Checking numerous times
  • Ordering or tidying
  • Counting
  • Hoarding

Can OCD Be Cured?

One of the most common questions I get in my clinic is “will ocd go away”? I would always answer by saying “lets just work on reducing it”.

The reason I say this is that it may not be possible to completely eliminate ocd from your life, but it certainly is possible to reduce the intensity and frequency of it.

The best technique for reducing your OCD compulsions is one called Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP) which comes from the field of CBT. I find is much easier for the patient to achieve success with this when you couple it with hypnosis.

Here’s what you can expect when you come to see me:

  1. We’ll arrange a FREE INITIAL CONSULTATION where you can come and have a chat about your problem and tell me how exactly you do it. This will help me decide upon how many sessions you’ll need.
  2. In Session One, you’ll have a 25 minute personalised self hypnosis recording made for you which you will listen to at home for the following 30 days (at least).
  3. During subsequent sessions, we’ll work through whatever past or present issues that are making your OCD worse.
