Is Nose Picking A Sign Of Anxiety?

Human beings have a natural built-in ability to self soothe. Our mind has the ability to choose any activity, like skin picking, hair pulling, nail biting, etc and form it into a strategy to soothe anxiety, boredom, or any form of overwhelming emotion. We can then :

  1. Identify trigger situations where we need to self soothe.
  2. Choose a behaviour (like nose picking).
  3. Tell ourselves it really is soothing us.
  4. Keep repeating it until it’s an automatic habit.

So, the answer is, yes. For a large amount of people, compulsive nose picking (or extreme nose picking), can be a sign of possible anxiety.
