Hi, my name is Paul Hunter. If you’ve googled “grief” or counselling for grief”, then you’ve come to the right page.

I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist, CBT Practitioner and Life Coach. For the past fifteen years I have been helping the people of Cork, and indeed from all over Ireland, recover from their loss.

First of all, not all grief problems are about death (although most are). Here are some of the things that people can grieve for:

  • the death of a human being (a partner, a family member or even a friend).
  • your pet dying (eg. a dog)
  • a divorce (you can grieve for a marriage even if you were the one that broke it up).
  • not being able to have a child
  • losing a job

Grief is a feeling we experience when we lose something that we loved. The American Psychological Association (APA) reckons that grief can last anything from six months to two years.

5 Stages Of Grief

It is a theory that there are five stages of grief. Here they are:

  • Denial – not being able to accept it’s happened, or refusing to believe it. Sometimes people escape using alcohol or drugs at this stage.
  • Anger – at the person, at God, at a close friend or family member, at the doctors for not saving them
  • Bargaining – asking “why did it happen”, or “maybe if I’d done something different” it wouldn’t have happened
  • Depression – feeling really low because of whatever loss you’ve experienced
  • Acceptance – accepting your loss and realising that life must go on, no matter how difficult that might be.

  • You’ll have a 25 minute personlaised self hypnosis recording made for you which you will take away and listen to at home for the followiing 30 days (at least).
  • In subsequent sessions, we’ll help you to get to that acceptance stage by forgiving yourself and anyone else involved.
