Elder Abuse Ireland

hypnotherapist cork

Hi, my name is Paul Hunter. If you’ve googled “elder abuse” or “elderly abuse”, then you have come to the right page.

I am a Clinical Hypnotherapist, CBT Practitioner and Life Coach and I have been helping people from Cork, Kerry, Limerick, Waterford and Tipperary overcome the psychological after effects of abuse for the past fifteen years.

As a decent human being, I certainly cannot understand what would make a person abuse an elderly person. I believe that it is so unfair and unjust to do that to a vulnerable person.

My heart goes out to anyone who has endured abuse and I do everything in my power to help restore those feelings that you have a right to feel:

  • your ability to trust
  • your confidence in yourself
  • a sense of safety and security
  • your ability to look forward to the future

Generally, you’ll probably need between 4 and 6 sessions to achieve significantly noticeable changes.

The Signs Of Elder Abuse

These are by no means all of the signs of elder abuse, however they are some of the main one’s. If you suspect that an elderly person is being abused in any way, the first thing to remember is to contact the appropriate authorities.

What Is Considered Elderly Abuse?

According to the Citizens Information website, elder abuse is:

“Elder abuse is the abuse of someone aged 65 or over, and it happens in a relationship where there is an expectation of trust.”

If you are being abused, if you can, you should speak with your GP or the Gardaí. Alternatively, if you are looking for information on how to protect yourself, try the HSE’s web page on elder abuse.

However, once the immediate danger has been dealt with, you may need therapy to rebuild your confidence, sense of security and ability to trust again.

I was living with a relative and they denied me meals if I didn't give them my bank card. I felt powerless and all alone. It left me feeling very frightened of the world. Finally I'm safe now. Thanks for all your help.
