Common Causes Of Depression

Here are some common causes of depression. They may ring a bell with you, or not. Remember, everyone is different and what causes one person to have this condition might not cause another person to feel the same way.

  • Bullying: Bullying can cause untold damage to a persons self esteem. For some people, this causes immediate symptoms. However, many people experience being “ok” while the bullying is ongoing but experiencing depressive symptoms, in some cases, long after the bullying is over.
  • Traumatic Events: Experiencing trauma either earlier in your life, or recently, can be a trigger for depressive symptoms.
  • Serious Illness: If you, or someone you love, has been diagnosed with a serious illness, worrying, overthinking and upset can trigger depression.
  • Relationship Problems: Having a controlling partner, experiencing a bad breakup, being prevented from seeing your children, cheating, or being cheated on, are all examples of how problems in your relationship life can trigger depressive feelings.
  • Drug Abuse: Many people who have used drugs to a significant level report having issues like paranoia, anxiety and low feelings later in life.
